windows support software bootcamp problem

When I use bootcamp it asks me to install windows support software (either through the internet or using the CD that came with my mac). I don't have the CD and it fails to download through the internet (says that windows support software in not available). So i was wondering if I could run windows (bootcamp) without the windows support software and what difference will that make?

Here's a manual approach to getting the drivers direct from Apple.

Right at the end of the "extract boot camp drivers" thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/892725/ there are a few links to the Software Update XML file as well as the relevant BootCampESD.pkg files.

Under OS X, download one of the PKG files.

Then run the PKG file you downloaded.

This will create a DMG file in "/Library/Application Support/BootCamp"

Mount that DMG file (double click) and copy its contents over to a flash drive, DVD or other file system that Windows can read.

Then proceed as usual...

when I try and run the .pkg file it says installation failed
could you please give me the link to the correct .pkg file (I have a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2009)

You might have to use the version for your version of OS X.

i.e. Don't try installing the Lion pkg on Snow Leopard.

There are two links on the forum (one for the lion ) and the other for snow leopard. This is the correct link (snow leopard) but I cant seem to download anything, it just goes to a page full of script. http://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog

I can find the entry dated October 2010 but I have no idea what to do next.....
