grr this pisses me off. The next release of windows Xp, is Longhorn. They copied Apple Quartz Engine doing some-what of a Genie Effect. I hope Panther will have good Quartz features

I wouldn't worry about it, they won't get it right, as usual..
Like in XP, a lot of misplaced eyecandy, but you still get that ugly animated gif when copying files.. :D

btw: Apple should hire John Carmack for Quartz Ultimate ;-)

my ramblings

It was stupid in OSX, it'll be stupid in "longhorn"

Sure it's cool at first, but not for long.

I do think the transparancy effects are occasionally useful.

I hope the next version of OSX lets you select a series of files, and then unselect one in the middle... Duhhh, come on Apple...

You can. Use the Command [Apple] key to make multiple selections or de-selections instead of shift.

You mean command click on a file in a selected group of files?

I don't know what you mean - it works exactly as I wnat it to:

1. I select group of files (any view: list, coloumn or icons)
2. I push and hold command, now I can click or drag an area on the files I want to deselect from the group.

It works flawlessly. What is your gripe?

I'm agreeing with you.

OK, I got a case of the "Fridays". I mixed up acj with MacBandit. Sorry about that. :p

Back to Longhorn: While the Genie effect in OSX is functional (it gives you a visual clue as to where your window is going), this Windows feature is nothing but trying to one-up the OSX interface. Useless.

When am I going to watch a movie swirling in a window, while my document window is trembling every time my cursor flies over it? I guess if it would be more subtle and useful: like when I hover over a folder it would pop open a translucent animated window with the information in it (á la Ballon help).

Hahahaha, this looks like ****! Pardon my language. And Microsoft is gonna be only 3 years after Apple when longhorn comes out 2004. No way! There is no way I'm gonna see more of this bs microsoft is pushing out, I'm so glad that I switched side and am in the apple-camp now :D

I feel sorry for people that think that windows is best (have thought that myself for like 5 years, until 17PB)

Well people have to think this is something M$ are planning to release in 2005, by then Mac OS X will be amazing (hehe panther could be like this!)

M$ are still playing catchup, apple will prevail

I would love to see a select inverse!

Why are you angry @ m$ copying the quartz engine.. After all, it 's a good sign to prove 1 apple war right, and that it had success otherwise they would certainly not copy it.

Kind of like how Apple was successful with a GUI? Or like Xerox before them?

Emulating may be a form of flattery, but the general public won't give Apple any credit for ideas that other companies rip off.

One of the things i love with Windows users is their silence when they see Mac OS X pushing Quartz Extreme to the max! hehehehehehe I love to piss them off with that. Cause one thing is for sure, besides we having the best OS, we have the best eye candy ever created. Things are just right with the Mac GUI.

It's been said that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, in M$'s case deriving from being puke-green with envy. I am glad they are coming out with OS X features. this drives apple to innovate. QE is cool, but i don't want that to be the last cool thing apple comes out with. and if others use that idea, then that will force apple to come out with something newer and better. and that will be great for us. come on. you know they will. :D

I did some searching and couldn't find them anywhere else... of course I was half a sleep... however I would like to them too. Perhaps they were pulled on befalf of M$aft.
