I'm new to this game, so forgive my ignorance. I wanted to try running a few windows games on my Mac without installing windows and I found Winebottler and thought great... but it's not working for me. My limited understanding suggests that the Steam prefix (?) might be out of date as it seems to be crashing trying to install Flash and I've seen some old posts on google about Flash updates breaking Wine installs.
Anyway, I tried the free trial of Crossover (which I believe to be essentially a commercially supported version of Winebottler) and it works fine.
I can post error logs later on, but assuming its just the prefix being out of date, how long should I generally expect to wait for a fix? Or do I need to fix it myself? If so, how?
I don't really see the point in paying £38 for crossover when I could buy windows for about that and run all Windows apps perfectly. So if I can't get Wine working easily, I'll just sack it off and stick with OS X.
