Can someone explain to me what this function of winterboard does? I pressed yes then it took a few minutes to "optimize" my themes. The only difference that i've noticed was that when I ssh into my phone and downloaded my themes, the .png files had no pictures. Is there any benefits to using optimized themes?

Apparently Apple adds data to the header of the png files, and skews the color channels which supposedly makes the graphics load faster. Since the png can't be parsed in this format you don't see a picture. Programs like photoshop, etc would also complain about parsing. This is what optimize does. Takes your pngs and translates them to Apple format for quick loading.

This is why there are numerous programs out there to decode Apple's png format for the iphone.
