I haven't received my trade in box yet, but from the emails with instructions, there is no mention of shutting off find my phone or wiping it clean? I am pretty sure I always had to do both when returning in-store?

Thoughts?

I'd still shut off find my iPhone regardless if it doesn't say. Otherwise your value will be 0.

Here are Apple's instructions. If you follow them, you will both shut off Find My and wipe it clean.

Thanks, this is for Europe but I will assume it is the same. So pretty much, on the old phone (12 Pro Max):
1 - Turn off Find My
2 - Wipe it clean
3 - De-register device from icloud

I assume when the box comes they will want me to remove the SIM card?

Instructions are included in the return box.

My routine is to turn off the phone once my new one is set up. I wait for the return box and then turn on the phone, remove sim, wipe phone, turn it off and place it in the box. Been doing that since the inception of IUP.

Here's what I did.

1) remove SIM
2) turn off find my iphone
3) remove from icloud
4) wipe clean

Took literally 1 business day for them to receive the package, and confirm my value. Refund already on the way.

Thanks everyone. I was doing the transfer from phone to phone when I posted this. When it was done, my old phone left me with a one click to remove from Find My and to wipe clean. All good. Should have known Apple would continue to make upgrading even more dummy proof. (although my Watch was a PIA to pair with the new phone).

On a related note, how long does it take this trade-in kit to arrive?

I did a quick start phone to phone transfer. My old phone had a prompt about turning off find my and a list of stuff before trading. I pressed continue and it turned off find my and wiped my phone. I called apple because I wanted to make sure everything was ok with that and they said I was good. I went to trade it in at my local apple store instead of waiting for the box. They also said I was good at the store so I hopes so

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was left with on the old phone and I wiped it clean and also got an email noting that Find My was off for the old phone.

I’ll give the box a day or two. The last time I did a ship to home for the new and tried to return the old to the store, they told me they could not process the trade in because a box was being sent. I was annoyed.

There were no instructions with my kit. I logged it out of iCloud, and then wiped it clean. Did not think about turning off Find my iphone. When I checked my devices under iCloud, my 12 pro max was not listed, so it must have turned it off when I wiped it clean.

One thing missing from these instructions ... if you have an Apple Watch, it is a good idea to unpair it from your old iPhone (which forces a backup of your Watch on your iPhone) then backup your old iPhone. That way when you load your backup onto the new iPhone, you'll have a recent backup of your Watch when you go to pair it with the new iPhone.

The kit should arrive in a day or two.
Did you get yours? I see in the Apple Store app the kit is scheduled for delivery between 9/28-9/30, but it has not shipped. I am thinking of just going into a store, but that could screw things up.

I am still waiting for my trade-in kit to arrive. I got the new phone on 9/24. They say it may take up to 10 days.

I used the quick setup or transfer or whatever its called between my old and new phone, at the end it asked if I wanted to prepare the old phone for trade in....SURE!

It asked for my appleid pswd and thus turned off find my phone and then wiped it clean....The phone rebooted and showed the setup screen.

Just as a word of caution I don't do that. I make sure that 100% of the things I want to transfer are moved over before I wipe the old phone. For example, SteamGuard on the Steam app didn't move over with the transfer.

well you don't have to do it _right_ after :)

if you don't you can just go back to settings and the clean up option is still there.

Funny story: this past year for some reason I used Safari browser tabs as sort of a book mark. I'd see something, open it in a new tab, etc....anyway after I setup the new phone and wiped the other I noticed my tabs were GONE!

Doh, turns our they were private tabs and like apple says, they don't track or sync... here I thought it was just dark mode....stupid me....

I got mine 2 days after I called. With so many trading in phones perhaps shipping takes longer? I hope you receive it soon.
