Wiping out hard drive

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and an 'old fart' as well so please bear with me. I'm thinking of selling my 20" IMAc and buying the new 27". Before I sell the old one I will need to wipe off all my personal documents, pictures, etc. Is it just a simple matter of deleting pictures from I-photo for example or does more need to be done. Are there software programs available that will accomplish what I need prior to selling the unit to someone else? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Best just to use the original restore discs and re-format from there.

You might have to go into disk utility to do the format but yes.

Disk Utility, format as Mac OS X Journaled.
Insert your disc, boot while holding C.
