I have noticed something very odd on my XR, can't find anything about it online so I thought I would make a post.

On my XR, when I'm chatting with people with the native texting app, I have a habit of sliding the inside of the palm of my hand across the top of the device while I'm waiting for someone to reply, just a habit I guess. NOTE: When I say the top of the device I mean the top of it, not the top of the screen, but the top of the device (where the power button use to be years back), my habit is wiping across it from right to left.

For some odd reason, I have noticed that when I do this, it seems to either activate the mic or some part of voice dictation (with two quick beeps), the beeps you hear when you press the mic on the keyboard to dictate but then you don't say anything, after a certain amount of time the action will time out and you'll hear the two quick beeps. I am not touching any buttons on the phone or anything on the screen when I'm doing this.

I'm not sure why it does this but it only does it with the native texting app from Apple. I have tried other apps and it doesn't happen with them.

Any ideas? Is there some kind of hidden sensor on the top edge of the device that is causing this? My device is pretty new (purchased in October of last year).

Thanks

My device does it too; similar habit. The sensors are near the ear piece. I cover the notch with my hand sometimes by accident and it thinks you’re raising the phone to dictate a message via voice recording. As far as I know that’s a Messages only feature.

Ah ok, so it's not MY device? I figured it might have something to do with the sensors in the notch but wasn't sure. I just found it really odd. Thanks for confirming.
