My friend and I were trying to play Civilization V over an ethernet cable between my 2012 MBP and his 2008 MB. This setup has worked before between my laptop and a different friend's Asus laptop, so I felt this should be a piece of cake.
However, while my MBP said everything was working correctly, his MB said that the IP was unassigned for our mini-LAN. Neither of us could see LAN games hosted by the other person. It's a Cat-5e ethernet cable that I will assume is crossover due to the fact that I could play with the PC laptop (Although though I've read that Macs don't need the crossover function). Is there a step we're missing?
Also, I have a mini-DP - HDMI adapter to an HDMI cable to go from my MBP to a Samsung Smart TV. It has worked perfectly before, transmitting both video and audio. Today, I could not get the audio to switch from the internal speakers to the TV. I tried using my mother's MBA and got the same result.
