I have a wired computer on my network. I can ping this computer from the terminal on my mac. But it does not show up in finder as a device or at all. I have freebsd installed on this computer and I wanted to ssh into it. I use a apple airport extreme and this computer does not show up under wired in the airport extreme as well. Any ideas what I can do to get this computer to show up on my macbook pro?

Thanks

If you can ping it, you should be able to ssh into it. What exactly is the problem?

When I use ssh david@10.0.1.6 i get There was a problem connecting to the server “10.0.1.6”.

I went into freebsd and in the file rc.conf I enabled enable_ssh so it is running on the server.

I just don't know why it will not connect.

But "ping 10.0.1.6" works?

Do you get that error right away or after a long timeout?

Either the service isn't running (what does "ps -ef | grep sshd" say on the bsd-box?) or you have a firewall issue.
