Wired keyboard issues OSX Lion on Wake Up

When my computer goes to sleep, and I wake it up. I need to type in my password. My Apple Keyboard Wired w/ Numeric pad won't work. What's going on? I usually have to restart the machine by holding the power button...

I don't like doing that on a brand new mac...

I'm using the same keyboard on my 2011 iMac and don't have the issue you describe.

I'd try going to the Keyboard preference pane and running the Change Keyboard Type… thing again to make sure your Mac and keyboard are getting along.

Also, if you have that keyboard going into a USB hub and then into your Mac, try plugging it directly into the Mac. Some hubs, especially non-powered ones, used to give me trouble with that. Meanwhile, disable the login on wake from sleep in the Security pref pane.
