TLDR: does there exist a wired (or wireless if no wired option exists) mouse for Mac that can perform the buttery smooth scrolling like when using Apple's trackpad or Magic Mouse, as well with the side forward/back buttons work out of the box? I've tried all the mice I have, including a Logitech MX Master. Even enabling "smooth scrolling" it's nothing like Apple's trackpad or Magic Mouse. Plus, the other mice I tried other than Logitech, I'd have to jump through some hoops to enable the side buttons, plus the "reversed" scrolling needing yet another app. That can be worked around in the native macOS settings, but now my trackpad is reversed lol.

I've been using MacBook for years, as my secondary computer. Earlier this year I bought myself a Mac Mini to start to move away from Microsoft. I tried to just use all my existing mice and keyboards with the Mac mini, and the experience is just nothing like the trackpad on a MacBook, so I spent pretty much half the cost of the Mac mini to buy a Magic Keyboard and trackpad. Problem solved, for me.

I'm now ready to totally ditch Microsoft, and will be buying a new Mac mini shortly and will be passing down my M2 mini to my SO. Problem is I know for a fact there's no way she will like using a trackpad or Magic Mouse, and I can't not let her have the full buttery smooth experience of a Mac if there exists an option. She has wrist problem and much much prefer the vertical mouse she's been using. I know Logitech has a vertical mouse for Mac, but I have a feeling that will also not scroll like Apple's options based on the several Logitech mice I've already tried.

Thanks for any input.

Try the Logitech mouse but WITHOUT the Logitech control software.

Instead, try "Steermouse":
Works as well or better.
Gives you access to all the mouse buttons.

I've been using it for some years now...

Thank you.

Just uninstalled Logitech and installed SteerMouse, and trying several mice. It is better, but still can't duplicate the buttery smooth scrolling of either the trackpad or Magic Mouse. I do love that it keeps separate settings for each mouse.

I am so confused now with the scroll direction on the mouse scroll wheel 🤣 When scrolling with an external mouse, I am used to scrolling the direction of the scroll bar. Right now my MX Master is set to the natural direction (scrolling the page), and my generic wired mouse is set to scroll the scroll bar, just messing around. Good thing Steermouse has a restore default for many of its settings.

Steermouse does seem to be my best option. At $20 it's still cheaper than buying another mouse, which in all likelihood still won't scroll like the trackpad.

What is it about the scroll gesture (on either Apple's Magic Mouse or trackpad) that can't be duplicated by a scroll wheel on a mouse? I might go ahead and buy the Logitech Lift for Mac just to see if being "made for Mac" makes a difference.

I love my Logi Anywhere 3s. I use it via Bluetooth, and the scrolling is smooth to me. The 3s takes a second or two to wake up after 1 hour or something of inactivity (it never goes to sleep while I’m using the Mac), tho, whereas the older Anywhere 3 didn’t for whatever reason.

It‘s billed as a travel mouse, but it’s around the same size as the Magic Mouse, a bit taller.

I wish Logi still did horizontal scrolling with the wheel tho (where the wheel can be pushed to the left or the right).
