Wired Xbox Live > iBook

Hi guys, I've used search for this, but no-one as yet seemed to provide a positive answer.

Basically, I've got an iBook upstairs here, which is wirelessly connected to the Internet downstairs. Basically, my iBook has Internet access, I guess.

Anyway, I'm after Xbox Live, but wondered if you guys could tell me if plugging an ethernet cable into an Xbox, and the other end into my iBook and selecting Internet Sharing in System Prefs would work?

Has anyone any experience of connecting an Internet-enabled Mac with an Xbox through ethernet cable?

You could do something like Xbox Connect (http://www.xbconnect.com) (don't know of a mac one), but I don't know about the Internet sharing.

Might want to check out getting a wifi bridge for you Xbox.

it runs on the xbconnect network and i have used it and i enjoy it. in order for it to work with your wireless ibook you plug the xbox's ethernet into the ibook's ethernet and turn on internet connection sharing on the ethernet port to airport.

That same thing works when I play online with my PS2, so I'll venture a guess that it ought to work with an Xbox.

Xbox Live and XB Connect are different...you pay $50 for Live and none for XB Connect

You'll need a crossover ethernet cable when connecting your Xbox to iBook. Regular Ethernet cables will not work.


But the configuration should work if you can get the IPs right..

I do a similar thing that you're wanting to try...

Except my xbox plugs into a hub, which connects to the G5... which then connects to the internet wirelessly.

As long as internet sharing is on from the airport to the ethernet, all will work perfectly.

Although LIVE isn't free, it kicks XBConnect's arse. Honestly, LIVE ROCKS!
