Wireless connection compromise crash osx - something to do with fast torrent download

When downloading torrents at high speed I get wireless connection compromise followed by a full crash on osx. grey comes down the screen and forces me to hold the power button to restart. I initially thought it might be a transmission problem so switched to vuse and that seemed to be working fine until today when the same issue has occured. I've never had my mac crash ever in the 2-3 years i've had it so am pretty worried. Any ideas?

Using OSX Leopard Latest with latest transmission and latest vuse

You could also try µTorrent.
Maybe lower the maximum download speed and see, if that helps.

I don't know why it's happened just in the last week. Seems odd it's not as transmission problem as I originally thought
