Wireless connection is really misbehaving following airport update

Following the update, the wireless on my MacBook Pro has been very very buggy. There are four types of problems that are occurring:

1. failure to join preferred networks
2. signal strength reduction
3. selecting "lower" networks from preferred networks list than those networks that are listed higher.
4. significant reduction in page load times
5. numerous "safari can't open the page" messages for no apparent reason, other than it likely being a manifestation of one of the problems set out in 1-4.

Are people experiencing similar issues and have you found any methods of resolving them?

Unplug your router for 30 seconds to restart it.
This usually works for me.

sorry, I thought I was clear, but probably should have provided more specificity than my MacBook Pro. The issues, however, as the MacBook Pro reference was supposed to identify was that it is the notebook that is acting funny, not my airport extreme base station.
