My equipment:

2.2GHz Mac Book Pro
Airport Extreme
Cable Modem (6Mb)

My problem:

When my computer is plugged directly into an ethernet connection, the computer has absolutely no problem and goes plenty fast. The issue arises when I use ANY wireless network. When I go to load a webpage, there is a 5 second delay or so to start the webpage loading. It almost seems as if the computer is making sure the site is legit, or safe, or whatever. (That's just my uneducated assumption.) I say that because once the website loads, it usually moves around the same site at pretty frequent speeds. Then, upon moving to a different domain, say, moving from gmail to ESPN, it takes a while to initially load the new page. Once there, moving around the ESPN site doesn't seem as sluggish.

This happens on any wireless network I join. Is there a reason for the initial delay when I go to new webpages?? It's very frustrating when I pay as much as I am for a fast network at home...

any help is much appreciated....
