Wireless Display?

Hey I have a question, so can I use my TV or any other external monitor as a wireless display? Ive heard a little about AirPlay but I don't know how that works or if I can only use it to stream video to a TV instead of live browsing.

I want to use the Big TV in my dorm as a monitor while I sit on my bed and do work or browse the net. What's the best way to do this if it's possible?

I think to use airplay the TV has to have an AppleTV connected to it.

Get a Mini Display Port to HDMI/DVI/VGA (depending on the TV inputs) adapter. Then plug your machine in. Invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse, and just use those while leaving your machine next to the TV.
