Wireless internet get very slow when move away from router

Get very good speeds when im in the same room as our o2 router, but as soon as i leave the room the speed significantly drops.
I have tried changing the channel and cant think of any other interference. I tried switching off our wireless phone but no change.

Any suggestions?
