I can't get my wireless internet to work when running XP on my new iMac. I can see the networks fine, but they all have one or two bars, while I'm sitting here using the very same network with my ipod touch, seeing 4 bars constantly. When I try to connect, it basically stays at the "acquiring network address" stage.

I've tried putting the ip/dns/gateway in manually, in which case it says "connected" very quickly, but the internet doesn't work at all and I get a little message saying "limited or no connectivity." :(

I've tried this directly beside my router.

I've done a fair bit of googling on this problem and it seems that it was very common about a year ago, but successive boot camp updates fixed the issue for most people. Although a search on these forums will show that there are still some people having problems with wireless in XP.

What I'm wondering now, is perhaps it's just a matter of me not knowing how to set up the network properly in XP? Although if this was the case, you'd think I'd at least see a strong signal for the networks, like I'm getting in Leopard.

In any case, I'm using a linksys wrt54g router with DD-WRT v23 firmware. Windows XP is patched up to SP3.

Does anyone know of any important steps that one must take to connect to a network in XP that aren't necessary on OS X?

Or is anyone having a similar problem? Is so, which router are you using? And which OS?
