Wireless Keyboard Function Keys Not Working Correctly

Hey, I have a Macbook Pro that runs Mac OS X 10.5.8 and I recently bought an Apple Monitor, Apple Wireless Keyboard, and the Apple Magic Mouse so that when I am home I can "turn" my laptop into a desktop. However, ever since I hooked up my wireless keyboard, everything works fine besides the function keys. I am pretty sure F1-F8 don't do anything and F9-F12 just do espose things like pull up the dashboard, show all windows, etc. Does anyone know how I can make the function keys to do what they are supposed to do (like actually get F11 and F12 to turn the music up and down for example)???
