wireless mighty mouse won't connect

i have a macbook pro and i just got a wireless mighty mouse but it wont work. the manual for the mouse says that im supposed to connect it when i turn on my computer for the first time but i got it after i already had used my computer for a few days. does anyone know how to get it to work?

Have you gone to bluetooth preferences to add the mouse to your devices?

turn on bluetooth. go to the menu bar > bluetooth > set up new device.
