Is there a way to do this? Was apple really that dumb to not include this feature with Apple TV?

Yes it is possible, but requires some physical parts, and molding a plastic case for it if you want to make it Pretty.

In function is excellent, fast, and no irritating lagg on audio video, you can even game with it.

the guy who did this spent about $275 on the build, you could probably scavage the parts for less.

Yeah I've seen that setup...I find it hard to believe that this is the only way to accomplish this. This is the 21st century and apple feels it is still necessary to live in the past. No wireless mirroring = embarrassing.

Mirroring makes no sense in my opinion. I like the way Airplay simply gives you your video, no UI or anything.

That said, the HDMI-adapter with a really short cable + a wireless HDMI transfer system is your best bet if you're desperate for bad functionality.

If you'r good with plastic molding you can make something really neat out of this. Slapp in some better or more batteries and you might be albe to extend the batterytime of the iPad it self. And maybe even a camera connection kit so you can add a SD card slot or USB port or both.

the new iOS5 offers wireless mirroring of iPad2, but only via AppleTV.

Did they FOR SURE say it would only work with ipad 2? If so ... why?? If my ipad 1 is capable of playing HD content through AirPlay streaming to my Apple TV, surely it can stream the rest of my screen?

That is just ridiculous if it is limited to only ipad 2.

from Apple site on iOs5=
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.(2)

(2) requires AppleTV 2.

Well looks like my prayers have been answered, that was quick haha thanks apple for listening to me;)

Yeah, I'm rather pissed about it myself.

Will a hack for iPad 1 be released to enable the mirroring over wifi?

display mirroring was hacked into iPad 1 by adding display-mirroring true to K48AP.plist in system/library/coreservices/springboard.app folder. Tried adding display-mirroring , wireless-mirroring to the plist on iPad 1 , but was of no help.

can anyone with jailbroken ipad2 provide K48AP.plist, so we can compare with ipad1 and make necessary changes in the file to enable the hack.

thanks

Ask Comex for it.

Ahh, oh I didnt think about that.
Hope jailbreakme.com does it soon.

So any more news on this? The JB is now out. I know there is a displayout tweak, but so far it doesn't enable wireless mirrowing. That would be a cool bonus to add in.
