wireless mouse for imac will not drag and drop

I am fairly new to Mac, and have a problem with wireless mouse. It does all it is supposed to do except i cannot drag and drop icons or any work done in applications any advice? ....More detail..... once a desktop icon has been highlighted with a click with the mouse, holding the mouse click down I cannot drag the item to the trash can on the dock. Also I am unable to drag and drop any documents to any folders etc. Other than that the mouse works fine. I tried resetting the secondary commands under system preferences. All problems started after restarting the computer after a 13 day shut down because of hurricane Ike. Thanks for help

Maybe you're letting up on the mouse?

You should give us specifics, what type of data you are trying to drag and drop, what app you are using, etc.

You probably need to adjust the setting to have the right click for secondary command. You will find this under system preferences??
