Hi Guys,

OK, I'm going to throw this issue out there because it is driving me nuts. The basic scenario is that I'm trying to diagnose and fix a wireless network bandwidth issue that is preventing me from streaming video content across my network from an iMac (new last year) to my Apple TV via gigabit Airport Extreme base station. However, in the course of this matter I am now encountering a bizarre situation whereby my iMac no longer wants to talk to the Internet yet my other devices are perfectly happy.

Here's what I've got:

Belkin N Wireless Router (F5D8636-4 v2 (01))
iMac
Dell Latitude
iPhone 3GS
AppleTV

With Belkin set to broadcast an unprotected B/G/N network using various channels the Dell, iPhone and AppleTV are quite happy connecting to it and the Internet. The iMac, on the other hand, seems to take a long time to acquire an IP address from the router's DHCP server but when it does this does not seem to enable it to either access the Internet or other devices on the network. In fact, this whole exercise was to test the performance of copying a video file across the network via an SMB share on the iMac to the Dell. Despite being relatively close to the router (the computers are in the room directly above the router) the Airport Extreme only seems to achieve a rate of 1.6MB/sec. Via the Belkin and I can't even connect the Dell to the iMac because the iMac seemingly can't connect to the network even though it received a valid IP address (eventually).

It just seems so utterly bizarre to me that the Dell and iOS devices have no problems with the Belkin yet the iMac does, particularly when I am sure it didn't have problems last year.

Currently I have disabled the network on the Belkin and connected the Airport Extreme again. All devices can connect to the Internet again but the LAN performance continues to be rubbish even on a channel that is 4 clear of any other networks that kisMAC can see.

For the record, I hate wireless networking. Even in 2011 it continues to feel like a black art where sacrificing a chicken may still prove to be necessary. The chickens are looking nervous...

Any suggestions are appreciated.
