In the media event this past Wenesday, Steve told us all about the upcoming iOS 4.2 and how "it'd be all about iPad". After listing some new features he announced it'd be avaible for iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. Does this include wireless printing on all devices? My iPhone 4 is basically my computer and the ability to print from it would be awesome. Just wanted to know what people thought.

No one knows how Apple is going to do this.

Likely, when they build in printing, an app developer will be able to include it in their own app if they choose.

Would love the ability to print through Safari... currently my Epson only limits me to images on the iPhone for printing :(

You would think since it is a function of the OS and not the device specifically that if the iPad can print with iOS 4.2 then iPhones with iOS 4.2 will be able to print as well. I guess we'll know for sure in November. It would be a nice trick though.:apple:

Nobody knows for sure, but considering iWork apps are the ones he demoed as being able to print, and considering those are only available on the iPad, I would say that printing will only be available on the iPad.

At least that might be the case at first, we won't know until the 4.2 developer builds are out. Then people will be able to look and see if the API allows 3rd parties to use it, and how limited it is.

But did he say it'll come for iPhone as well as iPad?

Wireless printing seems to be part of iOS 4.2 and the website states 4.2 will be available for iPhone and iTouch so we can just speculate for now.
