I have a Lexmark x4650 WIFI printer/scanner that I've setup through wifi. Is it possible for me to scan with it through image capture if I don't have my computer connected to it through USB?

Yes, I would think so. I have an Epson XP-700 ScannerPrinter on WiFi that just shows up in System Preferences>Print & Scan without any issues. Nothing to do with a USB connection.

I had to set the lexmark up through its IP address. It just wasn't showing up. Is it possible for me to add a scanner like that?

If it's a real dual role device, then it should already show up as both. I would think that it only has the one IP address as it would only have one WiFi MAC address. Did OSX have to look for/download any drivers ?

When I plugged it in through USB it did.

I'm had this same problem after: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1505056/

but now I also want to use the scanner I have. Just have no clue how to set it up through wifi if osx doens't recognize the printer in the network

Can't see how I can help further as my device seemed to work OK after OSX found the drivers. Have you tried uninstalling it and trying a second time ?
