Wireless sharing of external HD connected to iMac

I'm having some problems that I can't get to the bottom of. I attached the error message. My HD is connected to the iMac and I have a wireless connection. I can browse, read, write on the iMac, but the DOCK (ext HD) will not open??

Any ideas are appreciated!

Is "DOCK" the name of the external HD? Sorry, it's not clear from your listing.
