Is there a way to go wireless from a macbook to quality speakers without using an Airport extreme?

I have a time machine as my router, and I'm hoping to figure out a way to go through an ethernet out on the time machine to speakers, and then be able to play iTunes through those speakers.

Is it possible? How can it be done?
