Hey everyone,
I've seen a few threads debating whether or not a G network is capable of handling streaming of DVD content (from a VIDEO_TS folder), and it seems to be possible. The setup in my home goes as follows:

  • A Linksys BEFSR41 (I think), older 4-port router, set to assign IPs by DHCP, connected to an ADSL modem, and connected to the next item
  • A Linksys WRT54G (v.6) wireless G router connected to the previous item, acting as a link between that router, and the wireless computers in the house.
  • A wired Printer
  • A wired Computer (Windows box)
  • 4 wireless G (minimum) computers

When I try to stream a movie off of the Windows box using SMB file sharing, I get massive stutter in Front Row. Looking at the bit-rate of DVD and of 802.11G (taking into account ACTUAL speeds), it seems like it should have enough bandwidth to stream a movie. Even with no network traffic, the stutter ensues. I'm wondering if maybe the 2 routers connected has anything to do with it (even though the Windows box is connected to the wireless router), or if there just isn't enough bandwidth available.

Thanks a million.
