Wireless USB mouse (Anker 2.4G) not recognised by Mac

Hi,

I'm running OS X 10.11 El Capitan GM edition on a 2009 MBP. System information recognises the USB dongle as the Anker 2.4G mouse, but the mouse doesn't work at all: the cursor won't move, and none of the buttons do anything (yes, it is switched on). Suggestions?

I'm running Steermouse and USB Overdrive, but neither have been of help.
