There hasn't been a meaningful update for the Retina Macbook Pro since 2013. I thought it might be nice to start gathering our wish list for the next update.
For me, the main issue is graphics I/O, which means we need a Skylake CPU:
WISH LIST:
(1) Expandable to at least 32GB DRAM
(2) SSD options for at least 1.6 TB if not 2.0 TB
(3) HDMI 2.0 port, support for non-MST hacked 60 Hz 4K video out including OS-X drivers
(4) Higher end Maxwell GPU to handle multiple 4K displays + integrated display (9xx series)
(5) Thunderbolt 3 (needed for HDMI 2.0), supports PCIe 3.0, 100 watt power delivery
(6) USB 3.1 ? (Not as likely, but it's a huge jump.)
(We live in funny times - In the 40 years I've been using computers, this was the first time that displays outpaced GPUs and drivers. I'm hoping that once the 4K transition is over, we won't have to keep buying a new laptop just to plug in a monitor.)
