It clearly looks to me like there could have been room for an ethernet port, a full one, not the type that the bottom part spring folds to match the bevel of the casing.

Could include the gigabit type that was the optional upgrade for the Mac Mini.

Wish it has some USB-A type 3.1 ports as well.

It would be nice if it was in the power adapter like the iMac. USB-A no why, that is ancient and should be done ? HDMI is nice for the office if using it with projectors.

Really strange that it wasn't included on the power brick as I thought that would be an excellent idea for these laptops.

What if they made a nice (not-£5000) external display which had this port on the back of it along with lots of others and a built-in 4K webcam?

Just an idea...

I’d really want the option with the power cord

I hear that users want a floppy disc drive to return, as they were so thin, also CD/DVD is being mooted too. How about firewire 800? Myself, well I have an external monitor for when I'm at my desk, and other times, just disconnect and on my way. The only ports I need are usb-c and I carry 1 usb-c to usb-a adaptor! This has served me well for 3/4 years now, why would I want to go back.

False equivalency.

CD/DVD/Floppy drives and FireWire have all been superseded by technologies which directly provide the same function.

On the other hand, Ethernet is very much a current technology. WiFi can replace in some circumstances but not all. Just because you wouldn’t use it doesn’t mean nobody would.

In a business environment especially, having an Ethernet port would have been hugely beneficial.

Ethernet is still advancing all the time, its far from a dead medium, especially in organisations where they're working with massive video files.

Maybe in MagSafe 4 in 2022… If I can plug a MagSafe 4 into my 2021 MBP that would be cool, too.

Or perhaps MS3 has the capability, but they want to release a brick w/ ethernet at a later date for add-on sales? Wouldn’t put it past them…

The notebook most likely has the thickness. We need to consider internal volume as well. Something would need to be sacrificed in to make room for the hardware. I think the majority of customers would like the battery and speakers to stay the same size instead of having a cat45 port. To add it back its a small dongle for those that need it. Also what would make you happy a 1gb port or a 10gb port? The 10gb port would most likely effect the cost of the notebook. Adding into the mag safe is another thing entirely. A teardown will likely show weather or not the it is built in.

I don't really care if my laptop has ethernet built in -- even as a network engineer -- i've planned things out that even at the datacenter i typically have wifi available to do what I need to do ... and in a rare case that I need a hard wire, USBC works just fine.

With that said, I really do wish that apple or one of their autorized partners like belkin made a 1g/2.5g/5g (or even better 1g/2.5g/5g/10g) USBC dongle. On odd the occasion that I need a hardwire, it's probably because of performance requirements, and if you look at the reviews of all of the usbc ethernet dongles at 2.5g or faster on amazon, they are pretty terrible on macOS.

Im using a cheap Cable matters usb-c to 1g works great no issues at all with Mac OS.

Yes, 1G is easy...

I'm looking for one that can do 2.5, 5, possibly 10. (as well as 1 for compatibility obviously).

Just as an example, I have 1.4Gbps from comcast at my house, and have hardwire in my office available at 10g, 5g, 2.5g, or 1g. It'd be nice to be able to get >1g on this new macbook pro without having the only options being the very expensive and large OWC adapter, or the unreliable stuff on amazon.
