The talk of extending the battery life of the MacBook got me excited that it may be better for the watch than we hoped.

Will it be like my Samsung Gear S watch where I can leave my phone at home and still get all calls/texts and notifications on the watch?

They've pretty much stuck with the same features that my Gear S has. If I can leave my phone home and still get all the above on the watch, I will get one.

the Gear S has it's own sim card, thats why you can receive calls without the phone....the iWatch doesn't have this feature so you'll always need your phone neaarby to receive calls/texts

Believe me, you will still want your phone with you. I have had the Moto 360 and the Pebble Steel for months and I can see now why I still need my Phone. The watch is for convenience.
