Notability, Apollo, Google Earth, etc. are apps that use iCloud.

So, now, will their data be automatically end-to-end-encrypted?

Here is Apple's full list of what is encrypted:

I don't know how to interpret this statement:

  • iCloud Drive: Includes Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents, PDFs, Safari downloads, or any other files manually or automatically saved to iCloud Drive.

Since so much of what I consider to be sensitive data is already end to end encrypted I don’t see a need, for me, for Advanced Data protection or a physical key. Others may have different needs but what currently exists is more than sufficient for me. I might establish a recovery key just because, but I don’t see a pressing need for it.

Do you use iMessage in iCloud or the regular iCloud backup?

The answer is yes, apps that store data into iCloud counts as iCloud Drive and that will now be end-to-end encrypted with ADP on.

Yes and if I were paranoid about my messages I could turn off iCloud backup. I’m not that paranoid. I’m not a journalist, insurrectionist, or someone being investigated by the police or government. And I clear my conversations every few days anyway. Chances are if the police want to access my messages or backups it will be because someone murdered me. In that case they should feel free to look at any of my data. In other countries or perhaps in this one someday there may be radicals in control and then I will enable every such feature I can find. Or more likely just delete all of it.
