with an iPhone 12, can I switch from AT&T to Verizon after purchase?

If I purchase an iPhone 12 for AT&T (via Apple Card monthly installments), will I later be able to switch to Verizon?

Or should I select sim-free when checking out? If I select sim-free, when I get the phone, do I just take the sim from my old phone (iPhone 8)?

Get the SIM free model. You will also need to get a new 5G SIM card from AT&T and later on Verizon.
