As many of you know I'm sure, Reeder for iPad shows each feed as an icon, that pulls the thumbnail the website has available, or the favicon if not available. Unfortunately a lot of sites only use the favicon (like Mac Rumors) and it makes Reeder not nearly as enjoyable (visually) as it could be.

Is there any way, maybe through Google Reader's site, or an extension to Google Reader that we can add these ourselves?

For those wondering what I'm talking about, look below, some feeds, like TUAW, Smoking Apples and Ars have nice large icons available. But others, like Mac Rumors, don't, and I'd like to change that.

It's up to the site owner to put an icon with the correct format on their site. From the developer of Reeder:

If you have a blog, you might want to add an apple-touch-icon.png (min. 120x120) for nicer display in Reeder

Maybe you should contact the site owners to ask them to add the icon.

Curses. So there's no synthetic way?

Arn? Please.

Excellent.

Thanks for starting this thread Doju. I love Reeder and was looking for a way to add an icon to our feeds and found this thread (I think everything is ok, but it's not showing yet, maybe I'll have to clear caches or wait for them to expire).

I'd say if you contact the site owners, most would want to be presented well in Reeder. I have a few contacts at some of those sites, so I'll point them in this direction. Who knows, might get things moving.

Edit: Macworld will have an image soon.

Edit 2: TiPB are on board too and their icon is working. Who else did you want? :p

Edit 3: Looks like you need to be on Wi-Fi for the icons to appear.

Yep. This is it exactly. I remember when Silvio posted that.

Maybe a third of my feeds have the icons there, and it'd be nice to have all of them I guess.

Awesome, thanks Bjango, I'll be emailing around too. :)

Has anybody had their icons removed with the latest version of Reeder???

My icons for Engadget, Daring Fireball, Ars Technica, and New York Times are gone.

Only Google-based Blogger icons still exist for me.
