within automator's grasp?

Hope someone has the patience to answer a somewhat dumb question... just installed Tiger on my iBook and the first thing I wanted Automator to put me out of my misery with, was that horrific start-up nonsense whenever I open Microsoft Word.. open project gallery, scroll down, my templates, click on icon and you're done (eventually).. I do this a few times every day and it reminds me of how much I used to hate having a PC full of user-unfriendly software.
Question is, can Automator automate this for me or does it only like to work with its own Mac programs?
