If you are without internet, is there pretty much nothing to use your computer for?

I know while I do do some offline tasks, without internet, I would not need a computer probably

Thought it would be interesting to get other's takes

I'd still use one a hell of a lot. I had a computer for many years before getting internet access.

Graphics stuff and music production mainly.

Hmm... I wouldn't have much to do. The majority of my programs are internet related. My music library would stop growing. No more MacRumors. I suppose I could still create word documents, edit media, and listen to my 36,000+ song library. Other than that, I don't have much to do with it. Well, I could play some games on it.. but I'd need more ram.

No my computer isn't worthless but my 1st gen iPod touch with no wifi (grayed out problem) really is worthless!

Funny you should ask.

Someone hacked our static IP address yesterday at work, and our Internet was down most of the day. I had nothing to do since I mostly do web development. What did I do instead? Started taking apart an old rackmount server and beefing it up, installed CentOS, and made it into my web development server. That way, when my internet does go down, I still have the ability to work!:apple:

I would use my computer a whole lot less, that's for sure.

The only stuff I do on my computer that doesn't involve an internet connection would be things like listen to music, edit/organize my photos, edit/organize my movies.

And I only edit movies at most once per month and I only organize or edit photos about once a week, for about two hours. So if I didn't have internet I'd probably use my computer about 18 hours per month (ten for one video project, eight for photos).

Although I have been learning AppleScript and javascript, and I'm getting into C programming. So maybe I'll bump up my productive time a little.

Pretty much useless.. There is nothing to do if you're not on the internet besides boring things, like school work or deleting useless stuff through your computer.

In short yes. Although my life is pretty worthless without internet so there. Why would I use $2400 machine to play DVDs and music? I don't have any games mostly cuz I'm lame:(, and I really can't think of anything I do that doesn't involve internet access.:)

No, I've accumulated enough porn that I never actually need an internet connection again.

On a more serious note, it would be less useful. The computer would still be good for music and movies and such, but I probably wouldn't use it nearly as much.

Very true, I don't have games either and DVDs and Music get old after a while, I can't think of anything to do without internet as well.. It's just boring.

Maybe. I play a lot of L4D and TF2 so I need a connection for those, but I work on this computer too so without the internet I'm much more productive. Heh.

lol totatlly

when i was in oklahoma for 3months, i didnt have internet. i hen never used my computer other than for movies

i resorted to a ton of book reading lol

All of my work is on the computer. The Internet offers me more storage options, allows online account access, google docs and spreadsheets, CRM and email campaigns.

If I couldn't use the Internet to allow me access to those services, I would simply have to use database, office, and financial software locally. My job would be more time consuming, and I would have a hell of a lot of postage fees to pay for advertising.

Without Internet, my computer would be just as valuable, if not more so.

No, far from it.

Word processing, Photoshop/Illustrator, games, blah blah would still work.

Yes and no.

I wouldn't be able to connect to work through VPN but it would give me more time to study Objective C and Cocoa programming skills.
