I am trying to watch some videos that have to be downloaded instead of streamed and Quicktime wont play them. I relized that I needed windows media player but it said after version 9 no more updates would be avail and to instead download flip4mac. It says that will play these files through quicktime but they dont seem to play.

If they don't play even with flip4mac then chances are they're probably encoded with one of Microsoft's nasty DRMs or are using a funny codec. Try googling for a divx codec pack for Quicktime, install it and see if that helps.

Did you restart QuickTime Player after installing Flip4Mac? You could also try giving VLC a go, it can sometimes play files that QuickTime has trouble with.

i realise this thread is from a year and a half ago, but i just had the same problem.

it won't play in quicktime or vlc. any recommendations for this year? :p
