Much greener pastures
This woman sounds like a real nutcase:

SANTA FE, New Mexico (AP) -- Lawyers for David Letterman want a judge to quash a restraining order granted to a Santa Fe woman who contends the CBS late-night host used code words to show he wanted to marry her and train her as his co-host.

A state judge granted a temporary restraining order to Colleen Nestler, who alleged in a request filed last Thursday that Letterman has forced her to go bankrupt and caused her "mental cruelty" and "sleep deprivation" since May 1994.

Nestler requested that Letterman, who tapes his show in New York, stay at least 3 yards away and not "think of me, and release me from his mental harassment and hammering."

Lawyers for Letterman, in a motion filed Tuesday, contend the order is without merit and asked state District Judge Daniel Sanchez to quash it.

"Celebrities deserve protection of their reputation and legal rights when the occasional fan becomes dangerous or deluded," Albuquerque lawyer Pat Rogers wrote in the motion.

Nestler told The Associated Press by telephone Wednesday that she had no comment pending her request for a permanent restraining order "and I pray to God I get it."

Sanchez set a Jan. 12 hearing on the permanent order.

Letterman's longtime Los Angeles lawyer, Jim Jackoway, said Nestler's claims were "obviously absurd and frivolous."

"This constitutes an unfortunate abuse of the judicial process," he said.

Nestler's application for a restraining order was accompanied by a six-page typed letter in which she said Letterman used code words, gestures and "eye expressions" to convey his desires for her.

She wrote that she began sending Letterman "thoughts of love" after his "Late Show" began in 1993, and that he responded in code words and gestures, asking her to come East.

She said he asked her to be his wife during a televised "teaser" for his show by saying, "Marry me, Oprah." Her letter said Oprah was the first of many code names for her and that the coded vocabulary increased and changed with time.
I'd love to meet the judge that issued this order. He must be a little screwy as well.

Haha that is so bogus, I can't even comprehend how what she says would make her go bankrupt?!

I read about this earlier today and I still can't believe that she actually got the restraining order. She's obviously nuts.

Hmm... and a judge granted that??? What's wrong with our legal system?

It's busy figuring out if the president breaking a crime is a crime.

Maybe I should file that Nintendo is causing me mental anguish by not releasing the Revolution yet, or Apple the Macintels (to a much lesser extend, I'm surprised to say).

Maybe the judge gave her the restraining order just to shut her up....that's one strange person....

She could just stop watching the show, right?

D

Can't wait to see what the judge granted her.

Should be on The Smoking Gun or another site soon.

Of course telepathy and secret signals to the audience could explain how Letterman has survived on TV so long. ;)

I'll get this in before someelse beats me to it...

ONLY IN AMERICA!

Ya well people in europe have no problems;)

But real something is WRONG when this can happen, my bet(or hope) the judge signed it by mistake or in a hurry(still even thats would not be good)

Nope, that's part of the mind control thing he's got going on her. How she even knew he was controlling her is what I'm wondering.

Seriously though, it's **** like this that really gets me. People sue because they can. No one (speaking of the sue-happy people) wants to take personal responsibility. It's like the lady that sued McDonalds because they served her coffee and didn't tell her that it was hot. Duh!

We do not have a monopoly on crazy people. ;)
Its not all that well known, but crazy people were imported from Europe and Asia years ago. They have been carefully cultivated and cross pollenated with the domestic crazy and have developed into the fine American crazy people we know today.

Oh god, this is too funny -- also include Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gilford, and Kelsey Grammer in this evil plot to destroy this lady.

why is this so unbelievable?

Steve Jobs is using code words and a reality distortion field to make us buy apple products all the time. that brings us close to bankrupty as well.;) i guess that is an established fact. so the letterman thing could be true as well.:p
