I won an auction and I got 2 "desklamp" iMac from a local school. They work but...they have a student id and an admin id. I didn't get the install disks in the auction so what are my options since i don't know the admin password.

Ask them for the passwords. Or buy Leopard and do a clean install. Or return them from whom ever you stole them from. No offense, but stories like this are fishy to me. :)

Google much? There are various ways around the passwords, even without an install disc, via single user boot Terminal commands. ;)

Buy a Leopard or Tiger retail disk and use it to erase and install.

this will probably be the dumbest question ever asked on this forum but do you open the CD tray? I am not sure, but I think the admin locked that function for the student id.

Follow this guide to set up a new admin account on the macs, then you can erase the others.

You could probably also boot into target disc mode to erase the "setup done" file and remove other user accounts.

Iirc, if you boot while holding the mouse button the tray will open.
