How long do you give it till OS 1.0.1 comes out for the watch with some tweaks to the software?

Given the current pace of OS X and iOS updates, I won't be surprised to see 1.0.1 within a few weeks and 1.1 at WWDC.

Don't be surprised if a significant update doesn't come out until around or after WWDC. If anything they'll roll out fixes for debilitating issues but no major changes until 3-6 months.

Every one of their OS's sees a major upgrade annually with 2-4 minor patches throughout the year. I'd expect the same for Watch OS.

I don't mean a overhaul, I'm thinking more of the first update to fix glitches and maybe incorporate some items from user feedback :)

Apple said that by launch communication speeds in third-party apps would be improved, does anyone have a pre-launch watch so they can see if the OS version is different?

Why bother wondering? The first iPhone came out June 2007, and they are still releasing new versions and update. You're really trying to find problems to talk about. Go enjoy the watch.

I'm waiting for the Apple Watch OS 8.3.
