I've heard the previous iMacs are pretty horrible at the thermal issues. I'm planning to get a 680MX 27inch, because 680MX seems to be a very powerful card (and probably the only one capable to run games smoothly at native resolutions), but it's worrying me a bit if it'll overheat.

I think I might grab apple care just because of this tbh. With apple care this can overheat all it wants lol who knows 2 years down the road I might get a new model for free.
 
I'm assuming they have tested for heat issues at least to some extent.
 
To me this signals that apple is confident that they have addressed the heat issues much more. There has never been a graphics cards s good as this in an iMac, so the fact that they are confident to out this card in, says to me that they must believe they have sorted out the issue. (Hopefully)! Even though I'm not going for that particular card.
