wont install osx, even though it came with the macbook!

Hi,

I got my macbook 3 years ago and wanted to format it today. I tried the regular approach and was hoping that i could format it with a fresh install.

It said this can not be installed on this machine, which is strange as it came with the macbook (purchased new). I read to format it and then it will work. That did not work.

So I'm running through the utility installer and it won't let me do anything. Surely it should work as I'm not upgrading, it seems very strange.

You could try a clean install with the 29 USD Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD.

i have leopard 10.5, why can't it install something that has been working on there for years?
