long time lurker, been debating this for like 6 months, finally bit the bullet and got a 17" 2.6 200G 7200rpm HD mbp!

the specialist asked me if I had a mac and I told him I had been running a hackintosh for well over a year... he thought it was funny

the local apple store had almost no 17" accessories though, lame =/

anyway, hi!

wow thats a beast! its probably more powerful than your desktop :p

haha thats funny how you came from a hackintosh to a Mac. ive also found this is the case for a lot of hackintosh users on insanelymac.com when having a bo-peep. they respect OS X and want to buy a license but they also respect the cool factor of the machines and the "it just works" motto of a Mac as OS X was written for Mac hardware.

Congrats. :) You got one of the greatest Mac laptops ever. :D

the reason I was running a hack is because of the long and storied history of logic. I had been using it on the PC since it was available, and when apple killed it I vowed to never touch a mac  so when the osx86project started up I built my own version of the 'dev kit' machine and thought of it as a big middle finger to mr jobs.. later I built a much better machine.. but I got tired of the dodgy way I had to handle updates and the fact that it was so easy to break what was my main production machine... but when it ran it ran very well.

the hack is running now as a logic audio node (I bought an osx copy for it a few months ago.. still in the wrapper :D )

this laptop is so insanely good that I've decided to forgive and forget

awesome dude! I am getting really close to getting my 17inch MBP after my vacation. Questions...Did you get the HD screen? If so/not, why? and is it light enough to carry around? Thanks!

yeah I got the hd screen (matte), I wanted a machine I could run logic on without using a bunch of cramped screensets, also the LED has better battery I'm told?

I don't notice the weight much. The 15" wasn't an option due to the lack of real estate... though I probably could have lived had there not been a 1920x1200 option staring me in the face. I don't even run desktops at this res.

Is someone went a bought a 2.6GHz 17" and didn't buy the 1920x1200 display, I would find them and give them a smackdown!
