Word 2008 - navigation pane not working?

Is anyone else having trouble with Word 2008's navigation pane?

I can see the sidebar, in either format -- thumbnail or document map, but clicking on the thumbnails or the line items in the document map don't actually take me to those pages.

Ideas? Solutions? It's a real pain as I'm working in a massive document and with this (awesome) Macbook Air I don't have Home and End keys so keyboard navigation is a bit hampered.
