Word document problem

Have a word document that has been worked on on a mac at work and then emailed home on and occasionally it will not open at all on my mac at home?

Has cost me a days worktime recently

Any ideas?

With the many versions of Mac OS and M$ Office out there, anybody helping would need more information, for example: what version of office/word is at work? What version of office/word do you use at home ? What Operating system version are at each place ? Is it possible the file was corrupted ?
