I deal with a lot of documents in Word that have web links in them. When I click the link, Word shows a status bar at the bottom and appears to be loading the entire page before it will send it along to the browser.

Once the browser starts to open the link, it too has to load the entire thing, so it's not like it's saving time.

Even worse, Word seems to be loading at the speed of a 14.4 modem. When I click some PDF file links, it will load it for about 30 seconds straight. If I copy and past the link into the browser, Chrome can load it in about 2 seconds flat.

First of all, why in the world would Microsoft design it like this, and secondly, is anyone having this problem and is there a way to get it to just simply send the link to the browser right away?

EDIT: I should also mention that I would LOVE to use something other than Word, but that's not an option, as this is for work, and I'm required to use Word.
