Word Mac '04 Spellchecker Proofing Tool

I upgraded to Office Mac 2008 and everything seemed to transfer over well except my Stedman's Plus Spellchecker. I noticed that in Office 2008 that the proofing tools are named with extension ".proofingtool." Where is the backwards compatibility with Office 2004? I tried adding the appropriate extension to my spellchecker file, but that didn't work. I also tried adding it as a custom dictionary. Is there anything else I can do? Can I convert the file somehow? There should be a way to make Office 2008 read this old file, unless it was based upon visual basic--I don't know whether or not that is the case. Any ideas?
