Word (Office 2011) changes keyboard setting after service pack 1 upgrade

Hello,
one of our people uses a German keyboard on her iMac although she types mostly in English. The mac is set up for a German layout, but after upgrading Office 2011 to SP 1, Word turns the keyboard layout back to English. It was fine before.
The machine is running Mavericks. Anyone know of way of getting Word to stop doing this?
