Word quitting on new MacBook

Hello,

First off, If I'm not positng correctly, please forgive me, I'm new to this kind of thing, But I have a problem. I recently bought a new MacBook with a duo core processor and installed the old version of Word I'd been using on my old computer. Now Word does things it never did before, like quitting unexpectedly. Can anyone offer any advice/help?

Is this Word 2004?

If it is then whenever I right clicked it would crash, and I think disabling the Microsoft Autoupdate process loading at startup made it stop doing that oddly
